1.Potential energy of any body defines how much energy a body have inside 2.we cannot measure it exact value so we measure its realtive value 3.assuming potential energy of anybody at infinity equal to zero.
EXAMPLE

Now suppose there are two bricks one is on the roof and other is on the ground .you will say  potential energy of brick on the roof is mgh(h is height of roof from ground) and potential energy of brick at ground equal to zero .
