let the age of father be x.

let the sum of ages of his 3 children be y.

then according to question,

x = 3y ........eq 1

After 5 years,

father's age = x+ 5

sum of ages of 3 children = y + 15

now, last equation,

x + 5 = (y+ 15) * 5/3

put value of y from eq 1.....

x + 5 = (x/3 + 15) * 5/3

3(x+5) = 5(x/3 + 15)

3x + 15 = 5x/3 + 75

3x - 5x/3 = 75-15

(9x - 5x )/3 = 60

4x = 60*3

4x = 180

x = 45

hence, father's age is 45 years....
