Explanation:

Bauxite Ore Processing:

The bauxite is purified by the Bayer Process. First the ore is mixed with a hot concentrated solution of sodium hydroxide. The NaOH will dissolve the oxides of aluminum and silicon but not other impurities such as iron oxides, which remains insoluble. ... (Sodium metal is not easy to obtain either).

Explanation:

Baeyer's process is used to obtain pure alumina.

Bauxite ore usually contains impurities of iron xide , silica and titanium oxide . The powdered ore is heated with a concentrated solution of at 473-523 K. The alumina dissolves forming sodium meta aluminate and silica   as sodium silicate, leaving behind the impurities.

The resulting solution is filtered, and cooled and neutralized with carbon dioxide to get aluminium hydroxide as precipitate leaving sodium silicate in the solution.
