As AOB is the diameter so the Angle ADB will be 90 degrees ( angle subtended by a diameter is always 90 degrees)

So by angle sum property

angle a + angle b+ angle d = 180

40 + b+90 =180

b+ 130= 180

b= 180- 130

b = 50

angle b is 50 degrees
