.Applying forces in sport

Sprinting

1st law - sprinter has to exert a force in order to change the state of motion

2nd law - Force of acceleration is given a direction and so the performer will move in the desired direction

3rd law - Force being applied to the ground causes acceleration force for the performer giving it direction and magnitude

Air resistance, Gravity, friction of feet to track are other forces affecting the performers inertia

High Jumping

1st law- Performer has to exert a force in order to change state of motion i.e, pre - jump and pre - run up

2nd law - Direction of force changes from being predominantly horizontal to vertical, allowing the performer to change direction of motion
