Case 1 where single discount of 40% has been given.

So, Price after 40% discount = 10000 - 40% of 10000

= 10000 - 40/100 * 10000

= 10000 - 4000

= 6000

Case 2 where two successive discounts of 36% and then 5% have been given.

So, 10000 - 36% of 10000

= 10000 - 36/100 * 10000

= 10000 - 3600

= 6400

Now discount of 4%

= 6400 - 4% of 6400

= 6400 - 4/100 * 6400

= 6400 - 256

= 6144

Difference between two discounts of 40% and successive discount of (36% and 4% together)

= 6144 - 6000

= 144
