Every judge of Supreme Court is appointed by the President after consultations with such judges of the Supreme Court and High Court as the President might deem necessary. While appointing a judge other than Chief Justice, the Chief Justice of India(CJI) is always consulted.

The Chief Justice of India is also appointed by President.
