William Shakespeare has had a profound effect on English drama. His unique style of drama writing and direction, not only influenced the audience but also created a new style of dramatization. His dramas involved the audience to such an extent, it is said that it was sometime difficult to differentiate the audience and artistes.

His plays normally had a moral and came out with truths of life. Shakespeare is credited with inventing a new genre - mixing tragedy and comedy. His influence on an international level, saw translations of his works in several languages.
