Given : aqueous solution of Znso4 is electrolysed by passing current of 965 ampere for 100s.

To find :

charge passing through solution, Q = It

= 965 A × 100 sec

= 96500 C

now no of mole of e¯ = charge /96500

= 96500/96500 = 1

at Cathode, Zn²⁺ +2e¯ ⇔Zn

at anode , H₂O ⇔2H⁺ + 1/2O₂ + 2e¯

here it is clear that on passing 2 mole of e¯ , 1/2 mole of gas is evolved.

⇒1 mole of e¯ , (1/2)/2 = 1/4 mole of gas is evolved.

now volume of gas = no of moles × 22.4 L

= 1/4 × 22.4 = 5.6 L

Therefore the volume of gas liberated at electrode is 5.6 L
