Small immature proplastids that mature without sunlight become one of the leucoplast storage types that do not produce pigments so remain clear unless exposed to sunlight.

Proplastids are undifferentiated stem-plastid in embryos and apical meristems

Etioplasts are an arrested pre-chloroplast, they develop along with tissues such as cotyledons in preparation for the seed germinating. In the dark, in ungerminated seeds, they lack pigments but become chloroplasts upon exposure to light. They initiate pigment biosynthetic pathways ready for sunlight to trigger them to maturity.

Leucoplasts - clear stroage plastids

1) amyloplasts – organelles for starch granule storage

2) elaioplasts – organelles to store lipids in fruit, seeds, & leaf mesophyll cells

3) proteinoplast – protein storage organelles that are less common versions
