no, inspite of having strict rules and regulations, elections in India are not free and far for the following reasons -
1. in India, booth capturing is very common.
2. most of the candidates bribe people for giving them vote.
3. there is not much awareness among the poor people, and hence, the are influenced easily. candidates can simply threaten them.
for example,
when elections are being held, the candidates mostly bribe others in order to gain votes and then capture booths to check whether their work is being done or not.
