Are festivals no more symbol of love and bondage(Debate)(For the motion)

Good morning everyone. I stand in front of you to express my views in favour of the motion ‘Festivals are no more symbol of love and bondage’. David Binder has rightly said, “Festivals promote diversity, they bring neighbors into dialogue, they increase creativity, they offer opportunities for civic pride, they improve our general psychological well-being. In short, they make cities better places to live.” However, in the current times festivals appear to be no symbols of love and bondage any more. They have become a source of pollution, ostentation, and wastage of natural resources.
I strongly believe traditional values such as love and bond have become obsolete in the modern times. People have become self-centered and materialistic. Even the spiritual, cultural, and religious values associated with the festivals have been replaced by modern practices. For example, during Diwali, people are more focused on letting off fire-crackers and eating sweets than remembering the religious and cultural significance. At certain places communal clashes also take place while celebrating festivals.
We all should preserve the sanctity of festival. Festivals were initiated by our wise elders to celebrate the goodness of life and to bring people together. We should all endeavour to maintain the cultural values.
