Sometimes, yes. There are inevitably stresses because the length of modern education keeps teens at home at an age when their instincts are telling them to strike off on their own. The parent treats the teen as a child, and the teen resents it.

But you have to put this in perspective. Everyone is still supporting you, rooting for you, even if they do sometimes act like assholes (not that you don’t sometimes do that too). Often the conflicts between parents and teens have a lot to do with the parents’ desire not to make the same mistakes that they themselves made as teens (yes, it happens to everybody). It can be frustrating, even devastating for a parent to see a teen head down the wrong path, and be helpless to stop them.

So yeah, on the micro level, I think teens do get treated unfairly. But on the macro level, they’re the ones who win out, something that they probably won’t realize until they themselves have teenagers of their own!
