XYLEM IS A VASCULAR CONDUCTIVE TISSUE WHICH GIVES MECHANICAL STRENGTH TO PLANT. IT TRANSPORTS WATER AND MINERALS FROM ROOTS TO AERIAL PARTS OF THE PLANT.THE TRANSPORT IS UNIDIRECTIONAL. FIBRES ,TRACHIEDS AND VESSELS CAN BE SEEN IN XYLEM.IT HAS BOTH LIVING AND NON LIVING CELLS.
PHLOEM IS ALSO A VASCULAR CONDUCTIVE TISSUE , WHICH TRANSLOCATES FOOD AND NUTRIENTS FROM LEAVES TO STORAGE PARTS OR TO GROWING PARTS OF THE PLANT.THE TRANSLOCATION IS BIDIRECTIONAL.NO ROLE IN GIVING STRENGTH TO THE PLANT. SIEVE CELLS,SIEVE TUBES,COMPANION CELLS,PHLOEM FIBRES AND PHLOEM PARENCHYMA ARE SEEN IN PHLOEM. IT HAS ONLY LIVING CELLS.
