are viruses alive ??


areejk200: yes the are alive they are so small that they cant be seen using ordinary compound microscopes . they are usually studied with the help of powerful microscopes called electron microscopes. they are hard to classify as living or non living

Hey.....

Viruses are protein Nucleic acid particles which are metabolically inactive without a host.

The nucleic acid can be dna or rna.
when they enter a host cell they will take up the host machinery and replicate their genome and also their protein coat. Many virus particles are produced and they again after the cell lysis go to infect other cells.

Actually speaking they are kind of like both alive and dead. They can be said as a connecting link b/w living and non living...spooky right?
