Area of a square is given as 12800 sq miles, find the time taken by a lady to move across a diagonal with speed of 15 miles per hour.

Area of the Square = 12800 sq miles.

∴ Side of the Square = √12800 miles.



∴ Diagonal of Square = a√2

= √12800 × √2

= √25600

= 160 miles.



∵ Speed = Distance/Time.

∴ Time = 160/15

= 10.67 hrs.

Solution :-


Area of the square = 12800 sq miles


Diagonal of a square = √2A


⇒ √12800*2


⇒ √25600


⇒ 160


⇒ Diagonal of the given square = 160 miles


Speed of the lady = 15 miles per hour


Speed = Distance/Time


⇒ 15 = 160/Time


⇒ Time = 160/15


⇒ 32/3


= 10 2/3 hours or 10 hours 40 minutes


So, the lady will take 10 hours and 40 minutes.
