Question : Area of a trapezium is 210 m square. If wearing perpendicular distance between the parallel side is 15 metres and one of the parallel side is12 metres find its other parallel side.


Answer :

(Given)

Area = 210 m square
Height = 15 m
Length of 1st parallel side = 12 m
Length of 2nd parallel side = ?


=>Area of a trapezium

$\frac {1}{2}$ × (Sum of parallel sides) × Height


=>According to the Question

$\frac {1}{2}$ × ( a+b ) × h = 210

$\frac {1}{2}$ × (12 + b) × 15 = 210

(12+b) × 15 = 210 × 2

180 + 15b = 420

15b = 420 - 180

15b = 240

b = $\frac {240}{15}$

b = 16


So, the length of other parallel side is 16 metres.
