          Area of a rectangle is defined by length x breadth.

In that 3-D situation :

 Two walls have same length l of base and height h. So, areas of those walls is l x h + l x h = lh + lh = 2lh

 Similarly, two walls have same length( here breadth ) b of base and height h. So, areas of those walls is b x h + b x h = bh + bh = 2bh

       Total area = 2lh + 2bh

                         = 2( l + b )h

                         

Hence the area of four walls is 2( l + b )h, which is also known as product of area of base and height.
