Human lungs have millions of alveoli which possesses an elaborate network of blood capillaries . The presence of millions of alveoli in the lungs provides a very large area for exchange of gases and the availability of large surface are maximises the exchange of gases .

Hence, in this way area of lungs is maximised in humans for exchange of gases.
