Explanation:
- Lomov came to propose Natalya, as he wanted to marry her. However instead of forwarding that both started fighting, first over a small plot of land known as Oxen meadows which both both claimed belonged to them and w\hen this fight came to an end they started fighting about their dogs Squeezer and Guess, and the supremacy of their dogs.
- Natalya said her dog Squeezer was much better than Lomov's dog Guess. She mocked that Guess was old, dirty and a lame dog. She claimed that her dog Squeezer was a high pedigree bad hunter. Lomov said that his dog was lame since it was bitten and injured on one leg by some other dog. Lomov was upset about all this and that despite all the qualities Guess was short in the muzzle as well as old.
- The two of them kept on fighting and arguing about this endlessly that the main reason for the the meeting vanished in such a dispute. This shows that arguments and disputes seldom solve a problem and can infact make things worse. Infact instead of fightinging they should have agreed for the marriage. That way oxen meadows would belong to both of them after marriage and the dogs too would be then with both of them.
- There was no reason for either of them to be rigid or stubborn or fight over matters that were not of importance
