When we will take Benzene through CH3Cl or Anhyd. AlCl3 we will get toluene which will be benzene with BH3 and then boil it with Br, we will get Benzyl Bromide that will be CH2Br with Benzene.

In the next step, in the presence of Alc. KCN, it will give Benzyl cyanide which will be CH2CN with Benzene to obtain H2O/H+ to get phenyl acetic acid getting CH2COOH with Benzene.
