Hydride of carbon family is stable when carbon is near to nucleus, thus its attraction is more towards valence shell electrons, so it is more stable.
Hydrides of silicon are less stable because in silanes hydrogen withdraw electrons from Si-H bond.
As we move down, electronegativity decreases so stability decreases.
