For the advent of machines, hand looms was the most common method to make every day clothes.
Pre-Industrialation world was very different. There were few and smaller cities and the people in villages did not have a lot of money to afford a lot of clothing.
Hand looms were slow and required labour but machines came and changed all that. 1 machine was able to make in 1 week what a hand loom can make in a year and the textile business completely changed.
However, by the end of the 19th Century, Hand loom was being recognized as an art form and a craft which very few possessed. The feel and type of clothes that could be made on a hand loom were very different and this gave them a unique flair! They became fashionable in the west and were considered a luxury.
However, the other side of the industry we never got to see. Most of the luxuries textile made from hand looms were being produced in villages and mad huts with under age girls working far below the minimum wage.
As these girls got better opportunities in life, they began to stop working on their hand looms and found better jobs.
Today the hand loom is a dying art with only a handful people who actually understand how to use it.

With the advent of technology, there has been some good changes and some bad changes. These days the textile industry has been working in a very different manner. The Indian handloom once used to be world famous because of the unique quality that it used to be done with hands. But now designs are selected online and printed with the help of machines.Even today there is a demand of handloom but not enough to surpass machine work.Job done by machines are fast and quick. Thus,
people prefer machine work than handloom. Thus, we can say that the handloom art is a dying art.
