I don't think that most people's lives change in appreciable ways when they turn 18.  I'd say that moving out of your parents' home (whether for your own place or for college) is the real changing point in your life.

Sure, you can get drafted, but you won't.  I suppose buying lottery tickets could change your life if you win, but you likely won't.  If you don't smoke or chew, buying tobacco isn't so exciting.  Being tried as an adult?  I hope you won't be.

You are no longer bound to parental rules (unless you choose to still live under their roof). You can make the decision whether to continue your education or get a job, and you can be tried for crimes as an adult and be sent to an adult prison.
