If a child, a teenager or most literate adults were asked to name a modern wonder of the world - what would it be? the pyramids of Egypt or the Taj Mahal pale into insignificance before this mighty wonder. Yes, it is the internet I am talking about.

The internet is a device that is connected to a satellite in space. It is then capable of transmitting information on any and every topic under the sun. The internet is your instant connection to any one in the world. It is a source of information to students on any topic for their assignments and projects. Students in remote areas can be linked through the internet to good teaching.

The internet had made the world a small place. The click of a button brings the latest developments in technology, medicine, and so on, to our doorstep. It has entertainment value too. Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and Twitter are today included as a daily dose in our relaxation schedule. The internet is of great help in planning holidays. We can select our destination by watching what it has to offer, find train or plane timings, book hotels and so on. Many people do their shopping on the internet as well and swear they get better deals than visiting shops or malls.

However, there is a downside to the internet and it is really bad. Sites showing pornography, cheating others or encouraging child molestation are slowly increasing. Also too much of the Internet can be a waste of time and take a person away from his productive work, specially students.

Today's children are becoming net addicts. Deliberate misinformation spread through the net can spoil an individual's name or even bring down big business concerns.

The Internet is a wonderful tool in our hands. We should use it judiciously and not let it spoil our lives.
