Articles made of plastic does not rust like articles made of iron. why ?

Plastics, more accurately called polymers, are not metallic so they don't corrode as such. Polymers degrade in the environment because some agent causes the covalent atomic bonding in them to break down. This agent can be heat, ultraviolet light or chemicals. The effect is to degrade the mechanical or other properties of the polymer. This is because the chain length of the polymer is reduced. So I conclude saying that Plastic cannot rust because plastic is a material made of organic polymers.
