Tilak Raj Dhir painted his first truck when he was 17 years old.
“By the time I finished high school, I had enough practice to start painting trucks on my own,” says Mr. Dhir.
Originally from Karnal district in Haryana state, Mr. Dhir was inspired by his older brother, who is in the same business.
Nearly 50 years later, Mr. Dhir’s profession hasn’t changed. He’s based at a truck depot in north Delhi, the Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, where he is affectionately known as “chacha,” Hindi for uncle.
