Aryl halides are less reactive towards nucleophilic substitution reaction because there is back bonding between the halide atom and the corresponding double bond. This gives a partial double bond character to the carbon halogen bond. This makes the carbon halogen bond very strong which is not broken by the attacking nucleophile.
