Answer:

The Four Levels

Explaination:

Reading is a talent.Everyone cannot read and write. One some people who have a habit and hobby of reading books understand the power of reading.

There are four levels of reading. They are thought of as levels because you can't reach the higher levels without a firm understanding of the previous one they are cumulative.

The 4 Levels of Reading are under :-

1)Elementary Reading.

2)Inspectional Reading.

3)Analytical Reading.

4)Syntopical Reading.

1. Elementary Reading

The first level of reading is elementary reading, which is what we learned to do in elementary school.

2. Inspectional Reading

The second level of reading is inspectional reading, which can be thought of us intelligently skimming a book in a limited amount of time.

3. Analytical Reading

The third level of reading is called analytical reading, which goes deeper than inspectional reading. If your goal in reading is entertainment or acquiring information, analytical reading is not necessary.

“some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested.” Think of analytical reading as chewing and digesting.

4. Syntopical Reading

The fourth and most difficult level of reading is syntopical reading.

It is the most complex and systematic type of reading of all. It makes very heavy demands on the reader, even if the materials he is reading are themselves relatively easy and unsophisticated. Another name for this level might be comparative reading. When reading syntopically, the reader reads many books, not just one, and places them in relation to one another and to a subject about which they all revolve.

So remember the next time when you read a book or an article ask yourself “what do I want out of this book” because that should determine what kind of reading you will use for it. You will be surprised by how different your experience of a book is depending upon which level of reading you use.

Good readers work cognitively on four strongly interrelated and superimposed meaning levels: the literal, the interpretive, the critical, and the creative.  In each of these four levels it includes knowing concepts and how teachers are able to inspire students to think in these ways when they learn.

Explanation:

  1. Literal: The reader understands literally the information that is mentioned explicitly in a text. This information may include facts and data, event sequences, key ideas and generalisations, causes & effects. To delve into it too deeply is the main element for understanding at this stage. You should be able to say precisely what the passage means to ensure you understand it. Literal comprehension is of fundamental significance. It needs a detailed understanding of the context of paragraph, sentences and words and is important for better comprehension.
  2. Interpretive: In interpretive reading, however, we read "between lines" and read ideas and information not clearly stated by the author. Therefore, the reader must make inferences. Inferential relationships will have to be made for, say , the year, period & season; geographical relations; relationships of cause and effect; ages, feelings and family circumstances specifically stated in the document. the reader should  study the facts that has been given in the text & characters' relationships,  main ideas and generalisations. if these are not stated put "two & two" together while making the inference. Writers do not always state facts directly. They imply attitudes & emotions and suggest viewpoints.
  3. Critical: Critical reading calls for judgments in respect of a text. The reader can determine whether the facts are right, whether the results are true or whether the author style is effective. The reader doesn't really appreciate the way the author has started a piece, sentences and a language. Critical reading also necessitates that reasons for the judgement be given, the criteria used to make it, the points of view expressed in the passage be reflected on, and that the treatment of those ideas be appropriate and effective.
  4. Creative: Creative reading calls for new concepts, perspectives, implementations and approaches to the development of creative skills. It needs to be made, predicted and imagined. The creative reading activities are to present a two hypotheses or generalisation based on a reading text and to present relevant examples.
