Due to atmospheric refraction the position of the stars appears to be flickering.
Now I will tell you how does it happens.
The different layers of the atmosphere have different densities due to their varying temperatures Now when light from the stars travels towards us it keeps on travelling from drnser to rarer and rarer to denser medium which makes the amount of light from the stars reaching us to be flickering. Therefore sometimes stars appears to be brighter and sometimes fainter. This phenomenon is also known as twinkling effect.
