Because when intensity of incident light increases, it means that number of photons increases in incident light. If number of incident photons increases, then number of emitted photo electrons also increases, consequently the photo electric current increases.

By increasing the intensity of incident light photoelectric current increases

Explanation:

  • Increase in intensity of incident light results in increase in number of photons incident on the surface of given metal. The work function is constant for every material so when we increase the intensity that is more energy is supplied to the metal surface hence number of photo electrons ejected from the surface of metal increases thus there is an increase in photoelectric current
  • When intensity of incident light is raised remaining energy which comes by subtracting the work function will increase the kinetic energy of the ejected photo electrons which results in increase in photoelectric current
