since i have been a patient of arthiritis i can help you out !
the symptoms are --pain in joints , ankel , back , fingers ...etc 
pain can increase during sitting or during any work.
arthirits mostly occurs in joint and i had it in joints so in joints you may feel like stiffness , tenderness , and swelling . 
About artifical joints- if doctor suggested you to do use it then you can do it or you may have to do your joint replacement .
