Explanation:

Well, Yes, there are many examples in which Carboxylic group is used as substituent.

Like propane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid. Here it's suffix isn't used here prefix is used. because as we know that in IUPAC Nomenclature longest chain is selected as main chain and in propane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid there is the longest chain of 5 carbon but only three carbon is used as long chain because if we used 5 carbon as long chain then the name of the compound is 3-carboxyl petan-1,5-dioic acid. and this is wrong because here 1 Carboxylic acid group isn't in the chain and it becomes a wrong nomenclature. So, prefix of Carboxylic acid is used in this case and Propane-1,2,3-carboxylic acid is correct IUPAC name.

There are more examples where prefix is used for Carboxylic acid group :-

  1. propan-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid
  2. benzene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid
  3. 2-methylcyclopentane Carboxylic acid.
