➡️When the slope of a linear equation is positive, x and y are directly proportional. When x increases, y also increases. When x decreases, y also decreases.

➡️When the slope of a linear equation is negative, x and y are inversely proportional. When x increases, y decreases. When x decreases, y increases.

➡️Find the slope of the given equation in the form y = mx + b:

➡️5x + y = 7

➡️y=-5x + 7 → where the slope m = -5

➡️The slope is negative. Therefore, as x increases, the value of y decreases.

➡️The answer is (b.) decreases.

Given : 5x+y=7

x  increases in the equation

To Find : Impact on the value of y

Solution:

5x+y=7

=> y  = -5x  + 7

Hence for a change of 1 unit in x  , there is a change of - 5 units in y

If x increases by 1 unit then y decreased by 5 units

Hence if x  increases in the equation  then value of y decreases

if x  increases in the equation  then value of y decreases
