As you go higher odds are against you

This expression is a metaphor which means the more you succeed, the more you are required to be responsible and focused. For example, while climbing a mountain, the higher we go, the more dangerous it becomes. There is danger of falling; oxygen is less; there is danger of stones falling. As one goes higher, one gets tired, hungry, and thirsty. Similarly, when one goes higher in life, one needs to maintain one’s balance to be secure and safe. One needs to be proactive and well-prepared to face many challenges.

In the famous words of spiderman, with great power comes great responsibility; subsequently, "as you go higher odds are against you", is a metaphor which is related to how many difficulties and challenges one faces when they are on the verge of success. That is the time when a person must be focused on the dealings.

This metaphor is effective because it may be related literally as well. This is so because while hiking or trekking as people move upwards they feel the loss of breath, and exertion. Ones muscles get pumped up.

Just like that the same happens in regard to this metaphor. So when one goes higher in life, it is important to identify and prioritize to be secure and safe in life.

One must understand the cognitive strategies to be able to cope up with novel scenarios.
