It’s affects are numerous, not just to the businesses, but to a neighborhood’s downfall as well.
As crime goes up, businesses are forced to raise prices, to offset the losses due to theft. Simple concept, if i am losing merchandise, i have to raise prices, and lower selection to keep profits/losses in check, i may have to freeze wages if i have any employees, or even lay off some to make ends meet.
Backside problems start from there, my prices go up, my selection goes down, those who have the means to go elsewhere, will go to where the prices are low and the selection is better.
