Solution:

  • If we see the forward characteristics (forward bias) of a silicon diode, we can easily understand that after a certain critical voltage, the current increases at a fast rate.

  • Refer to the V-I characteristics in the attached diagram.

  • The sole reason for such peculiarities is that semiconductors like silicon do not obey Ohm's Law.

  • This is because, the resistance of these semiconductors is not cosntant with same temperature and dimension dependent, rather its dependent on the number of charge carriers.

Hence, assertion is correct and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
