In the following questions a statement of assertion (A) followed by statement of reason(R) is
given. Choose the correct option out of the choices given below
a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation for A.
b) Both A and Rare true but is not correct explanation of A.
c) A is true but Ris false,
d) Both A and Rare false.
(4) Assertion: PbO+C ->Pb+CO is a redox reaction.
Reason: PbO is reduced and Cis oxidized.​

(a)both assertion and reason is correct and reason is the correct explanation of assertion

This is becoz lead i.e. Pb is losing oxygen and copper i.e. C is gaining oxygen and we know that gain of oxygen is oxidation and loss of oxygen is reduction.

therefore it is a redox reaction.

  • A reaction where a species is reduced and another is oxidised called redox reaction.
  • In the above reaction PbO+C-> Pb+CO the oxidation state of Pb in PbO is +2 and it is reduced to Pb of oxidation state 0.
  • Again the oxidation state of C is 0 which is oxidised to CO where oxidation state of C is +2.
