Answer:

assertion is wrong and reason is correct

reason is not the correct explanation for assertion

Explanation:

if you mean this kind of food chain

insect --- bird --- snake ....

then my answer is correct

but when we take into consideration the pollution involved then food chains can be responsible for contamination and in that case assertion will be correct but reason will still not be the correct explanation of assertion. Depends how you see it.

Answer:

Both assertion and reason are correct but the reason is not a correct explanation of the assertion.

Explanation:

  • Food chain - It can be explained as a series or chain of living organisms which are dependent on each other as a source of food.
  • Biomagnification - It is the process of accumulation of toxic chemicals by a living organism from the sources of food and water (i.e., from one trophic level to another) which results in the presence of higher concentration.
  • In the process of biomagnification the harmful chemicals which are not metabolized by the living organism get passed on through the food chain irrespective of the length and complexity of the food chain, which can vary in nature.
  • Main causes of biomagnification -
  1. Agriculture
  2. Organic contaminants
  3. Industrialization
  4. Mining activities
