Both The assertion (Alcoholic Fermentation takes place in the absence of oxygen) and the Reason ( It occurs in yeast) are correct.

Explanation: In the process of Alcholic fermentation, oxygen is not present and this process takes place with the help of the microorganism yeast as:

  • The first step of fermentation begins with the breakdown of sugars.
  • The sugar is broken down with the help of some microorganisms such as yeast, and certain bacteria.
  • With the help of yeast, the sugars are converted into pyruvate molecules and this process is called glycolysis.
  • The yeast converts sugar into ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide also undergoes anaerobic respiration which means oxygen is absent in this process.
  • Therefore, (a) both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A, is the correct answer.

Assertion and reason both are correct but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

  • Alcoholic fermentation is carried out in anaerobic condition and is also called as ethanoic fermentation.
  • First ,the universal pathway that is glycolysis takes place to produce pyruvate and then the 3 -C pyruvate is converted into 2-C ethanoic acid .
  • Though the ATP produced in ethanoic fermentation is very low, only 2 moles of ATP is produced
