Raja Ram Mohan Roy is rightly known as the Father of Modern India because of his contribution as a social reformer. He was a man of vision who realized that unless Indians don't get rid of their superstitious, age-old beliefs, we had no chance of progress and freedom. He was against polytheism and believed in one God for all the religions and humanity.  He condemned caste system, raised his voice against unfair practices like child marriage, sati-pratha and propagated widow remarriage and women education. He also favored the use of English in education to promote scientific temperament. He emphasized the need of learning Mathematics, Science, and English. He sowed the seed of modernization of Indian society.  Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore rightly said,  "Raja Rammohan Roy inaugurated the modern age in India. He was the father of Indian Renaissance and the prophet of Indian nationalism"
