Explanation:

Poly-Sci might be fun while you are in school but you will certainly be kicking yourself after you graduate. As others have mentioned, your job prospects will be limited and you will not have a high salary should you find one. Even if you go on to a doctorate in political science you will have a hard time finding a job.

For Econ, there are two paths: the Math-Econ double major and the pure Econ. If you do not double major or at least take a lot of math in college, you will not be able to go on to a graduate degree. You will also have a hard time maintaining a high GPA in higher level Econ courses if you suck at math. Either pure Econ or Math and Econ will grant you good job prospects right out of school. Econ is an order of magnitude harder than Political science and the average IQ will be much higher. It will not be easy if you are not in the upper belt of ability at your school.

Graduate school in Economics is also much more attractive than Graduate school in political science. Econ doctorates are hired by not only academia but also the private sector. Econ, Public Policy, Business, Public health, and Political Science departments all hire people with Econ Doctorates.

Bottom line is this. How do you stack up relative to the others at your institution? If you are near the top and good at math then do Econ, otherwise, do something else because you won’t make it.
