Assume that the overall size of the earth's crust stays the same. If one plate is pushing away from the plate next to it on one side, what must be happening at the boundary with another plate on the opposite side?

in this situation the other plate next to tectonics plate are starting to move dye to friction.

when the next platted doesn't move the force between tectonics plate is more because it's potential energy suddenly transform into kinetic energy. this lead to sudden movements in the next plate lead to earth quake.
