Assume that your family budget is only 200 a day. Figure out with the help of your mother what it can buy. How much can you set aside for monthly rental or housing loan payment with the foregoing budget? Imagine the kind of house your family can afford to rent with the amount in the foregoing. How do you compare this house with what you see in the slum areas

If a family has a budget of Rs. 200 a day, then the monthly budget of the family is 200\times 30=Rs. \ 6000.

In this budget, one can afford a 1-room and a small veranda house in a 3-tier city. It will cost around Rs.2000. Apart from these Rs. 1000 will be spent on schools, Rs.2000 on meals and the rest Rs. 1000 will be saved for an emergency in a health or something important. Sometimes we can afford to eat some roadside fast food.

In slum areas, there is a lack of basic facilities like drinking water and sanitation, but we will be living in a residential town so that is a good point for me.
