Hey there!!   :-)

An irrational number is a number which cannot be represented in the form of p/q..

If \sqrt{3} is an irrational number

An irrational number is subtracted from rational number then the answer will also be an irrational number,in fact when we do any basic operations involving one rational and other irrational number the answer is always irrational

Hence,

\sqrt{3}-5

1.7320508075... -5= Irrational number

Hope you get this..
