asymmetric by convex lens of radius of curvature and made of glass of refractive index index 1.5 is placed on a layer of a liquid placed on top of a plane mirror as shown in the figure and optical needle with its tip on the principal axis of the lens is moved along the axis Until It is real inverted image coincide with the needle itself the distance of the needle from the lens is measured to be on removing the liquid layer and repeating experiment the distance from to be wise obtain the expression for the refractive index of the liquid in terms of X and Y

the rays will only meet the centre of curvature when they are normal to the mirror

KrishSS: The method is correct but the answer is wrong
KrishSS: 1/y=(1.5-1)/1 * 2/R using lensmaker formula
atiya2: ok
dhruvlal: No that is correct it is according to the question that came in my board exam yesterday
KrishSS: Its not. I took the board exam too
KrishSS: Youve got the formula correct but sub correctly for 1/y
Ananthukerala: I've made that first part of y=R correct, but then I mistook f in second lens makers as just f rather than as focal length of the combination, ended up with getting n= 1+y/x .. Which i see is wrong..
Ananthukerala: I've made that first part of y=R correct, but then I mistook f in second lens makers as just f rather than as focal length of the combination, ended up with getting n= 1+y/x .. Which i see is wrong.. Will i get some marks for what I've done correct ?? And any guess how much?
Abhro8: This working is wrong...check properly friend..

The ray will coincide the object if it falls normal to mirror.

KrishSS: no
KrishSS: the entire lens is immersed in water i took
KrishSS: they haven't specified it like they have given clearly in ncert
KrishSS: so i think both answers will do
KrishSS: according to yur logic your ans is perfect
Abhro8: I had also got this answer in board..is it correct?
sid2700: This is wrong. I can't even understand why have you taken it as plano concave. Correct answer is 3x/(y+2x), verified by our teachers.
Abhro8: I checked the answer with CBSE answer key..this one is correct
