let no of gents be x and ladies be y
x/y=1:2
2x=y
x-2/y-2=1/3
x-2/2x-2=1/3
3x-6=2x-2
x=4,y=8

"Given: At a certain party the ratio of gents and ladies was 1 : 2. but when 2 gents and 2 ladies left the party, the ratio became 1 : 3.

Let number of gents be x and ladies be y

According to question:

x/y=1:2

2x=y

x-2/y-2=1/3

x-2/2x-2=1/3

3x-6=2x-2

x=4,y=8

Therefore there are total 12 people were initially present in the party."
