AT A FAIR,A BOY TRIES HIS SKILL IN SHOOTING.HE WAS TO RECEIVE 20 RUPEES FOR HITTING THE BULL'S EYE. HE HAS TO PAY 8 RUPEES FOR MISSING THE BULL'S EYE. HE TRIED 50 SHOTS BUT RECEIVED ONLY 20 RUPEES. HOW MANY TIMES DID HE HIT THE BULL'S EYE?

Let the no.of times he hits the ball be x
and the no.of times he miss the ball be y

then,
x + y = 50..............(1)

and a/c
20x + 8y = 20.................(2)

Now from equation (1)..
x = 50 - y

Putting the value of x in equation (2)
20 × ( 50 - y ) + 8y = 20
1000 - 20y + 8y = 20
1000 - 20 - 12y = 0
980 = 12y
y = 980/12

x = 50 - 980/12
x = (600 - 980)/12
x = - 380/12

Suppose , number of times he hits the bull's eye in 50 shots = x

Hits the bull's eye = ( x ) times

Misses the bull's eye = ( 50-x ) times

Money received = 20 * x

Money paid = 8 ( 50-x )

Total money he received ,

20*x-8(50-x) = 20

20x-400+8x = 20

20x+8x = 400+20

28x =420

x = 420/28

x = 15

Therefore, the boy hit the bull's eye 15 times.
