Let the amount of food a student eats be x.
Total amount of food=6*48x
                                 =288x
If, 12 students are absent, then, the number of students present=48-12=36
No. of days the food can last= 288x/36x
                                             =8 days

Given:

  • Total number of students = 48
  • The number of days food will last = 6

To Find:

  • To calculate the number of days food will last if 12 students were absent.

Solution:

Let the total number of days food last be 'x'.

Total amount of food available = 6×48 = 288

If 12 students are absent from the camp, then the total number of students present in the camp is given by,

Total number of students present in the camp = 48 - 12 = 36

Now, the total number of days food can last is given by,

⇒ x = total amount of food available/total number of students present

⇒ x = 288/36

⇒ x = 8

∴ The total number of days food can last = 8 days
