at at what temperature does the reduction of lead oxide to lead by carbon become spontaneous ?
PbO + C ------> Pb(s) + CO (g)
for the reaction above ∆H and ∆S at 25°c are 108.4 KJ /mol and 190 J/K Mol respectively.

Answer:

H = 108.4kJ/mole

S = 190 J/kmol

G. = H -- T∆S

at equilibrium.....G = 0

H =T S

So..T = 108.4 x 1000 / 19

= 570.5 Kelvin

So... above 570.5 k...say 571 k

G = -ve and the reaction will become spontaneous..
